Questions, answered properly
Pricing, what is included, who comes to your home, and what happens if something is not right.
Getting started
How much does a cleaning cost?
Pricing is based on the size of your home and the number of bathrooms. Choose them on the booking form and the exact price appears on screen before you confirm anything — there is no in-home estimate and no phone quote for residential work. Commercial spaces are quoted separately.
Which areas do you serve?
We serve the greater Peterborough area, Peterborough County and the City of Kawartha Lakes. If you are not sure whether your address falls inside the zone, email support@peterboroughclean.ca or call 249-494-5220 before booking and we will tell you straight.
How do I book my first appointment?
Book online any time — the form is open 24 hours a day and takes about a minute. Choose your home size, add any extras, pick a date, and the price is calculated before you confirm. You can also call or text 249-494-5220 during office hours and we will do it with you.
Do you bring your own supplies and equipment?
Yes. Products, equipment and vacuums all come with the crew. If you would rather we used a specific product in your home, call the office before your service date and we will arrange it. Occasionally we may ask to use your vacuum instead of ours — a vacuum carries dander and allergens between homes, so that request is about the next customer as much as yours.
I only need a few rooms done. Can I book something shorter?
Yes, through the hourly option, with a three-hour minimum. The standard packages are priced for a whole home, so the hourly booking is the way to have the crew concentrate on the rooms that matter most to you. Contact us first so we can set it up properly.
What are your office hours?
The office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and the phone is answered 9am to 5pm on weekends as well. The booking form itself never closes — you can book, reschedule or cancel online at any hour.
What's included
What is included in a standard cleaning?
Kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and living areas. Counters, sinks, showers, tubs, toilets and fixtures cleaned and disinfected; the exterior of appliances, cabinets and drawers wiped down; the microwave done inside and out; stove top, burners, drip pans and knobs cleaned; floors vacuumed, swept and mopped; ceiling fans, light fixtures, blinds, vents, baseboards and window sills dusted; mirrors cleaned; beds made; bins emptied; switch plates and doorknobs cleaned and disinfected.
Why do I need a First Time Clean?
If the home has not been professionally cleaned in the last month, the first visit needs more hours than a standard one to bring it up to the level our standard visits then maintain. It adds work a standard clean does not include: vacuuming under furniture, wiping furniture down, and doing baseboards, door frames, door facings and window sills properly. After that visit, standard cleans are the right choice.
What do you need from me for a move-out clean?
The home has to be empty, with no movers or trades working in the space, and it needs electricity and running water. Cabinets, drawers and appliances are cleaned inside as well as out, which only works if they have been emptied. If the home is still occupied when the crew arrives, the booking has to be switched to a standard or deep clean at the applicable rate.
What do you not do?
No heavy lifting or moving of appliances and furniture, and nothing over twenty pounds. Nothing above two rungs of a ladder. No exterior windows, no deep carpet or floor treatments such as steam cleaning, waxing or polishing, and no post-construction cleaning through the online booking. We do not remove strong odours such as mould, smoke or animal waste, we do not clean litter boxes or bodily fluids, and we do not work in homes with an active pest infestation. Mini blinds are dusted but not wiped — they bend. If you are unsure about something in your home, call and ask before booking.
Can you clean if I am not home?
Yes, and most customers are not. Tell us how the crew gets in — a lockbox code, a key left somewhere agreed, a door code — and let us know if that code changes. If your home has an alarm, either leave it off or give the office the code and the input sequence. If we arrive and cannot get in, the visit has to be rescheduled and a lockout fee applies.
Trust & safety
Can I trust the person coming into my home?
Every cleaner is interviewed by the owners and passes a criminal record check before their first job. Roughly one in ten applicants makes it through. That is deliberate — the team is the whole business, and inviting someone into your home is not a small thing to ask.
Do cleaners go through a background check?
Yes. A criminal record check is the final step of the pre-screening process for every applicant, after the interview and reference checks.
Is my billing information kept secure?
Card payments are processed by Stripe over its own encrypted connection, and the booking page is served over SSL with its own layer of encryption on the form. No card number is ever stored in our system — only a token that lets us charge the card you authorised.
What happens if something is missed?
Tell us within 24 hours of the visit and we send a team back within 7 days to put it right, at no charge. Photos of the specific areas that were missed help — anything not raised inside that 24-hour window cannot be added to the re-clean. You will need to be there to let the crew back in. Where a re-clean is not the right answer, refunds are considered case by case.
What if something gets broken?
It is uncommon, but it happens. Cleaners are instructed to call the office immediately and leave you a note. Report anything you find within 24 hours of the visit. Wall hangings are the usual casualty, so anything hung on pins or thread rather than a proper picture hook is worth taking down first. Cash, jewellery and irreplaceable items should be put away before any visit — that is standard advice for letting anyone into your home.
Are you insured?
Yes, the company carries insurance for the services it provides. We can also decline a job on health and safety grounds, or if the work falls outside what that policy covers.
Pricing & policies
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Cancel or reschedule free of charge with more than 24 hours notice, by phone, text or email to the office. Inside that window a $79 cancellation fee applies, because the slot has been held and the cleaner has been scheduled. Telling the crew at your door does not count as notice — it has to reach the office.
How and when do I pay?
Payment is taken online when you book. We accept Visa, Mastercard and Interac transfer. Cash is not accepted as standard — if that is a problem, contact the office before booking. A receipt is emailed automatically to the address used on the booking, so it is worth checking that address is right.
What time will the cleaners arrive?
There is a one-hour arrival window either side of your booked time, which covers traffic and whatever the previous job threw up. Anything beyond that and we will contact you before the visit rather than leave you waiting.
What happens if I skip a recurring visit?
The rate follows the actual gap between visits, not the label on your booking. A bi-weekly customer who skips one visit creates a four-week gap, so the next clean is charged at the monthly rate. A bi-weekly customer who adds a visit in between creates a one-week gap and gets the weekly rate on the next two. Nothing is hidden — the price is recalculated when the schedule changes.
Should I tip?
Appreciated, never expected. If you would like to, 10 to 15 percent of the cleaning fee is the usual range. It can be left in cash or added to your card payment, and the cleaner receives all of it.
What about my pets?
Tell us at booking that there are pets in the home. It helps if they are secured during the visit, and if anything has been picked up after them — litter boxes and accidents on the floor are outside what our crews handle. If a pet will be roaming free, say so in advance so the crew can be careful with doors. We are not responsible for a pet that gets out while the cleaners are coming and going.
